PCD 126A - 6.6 kV Surge and Ring-Wave Coupling Network

Surge coupling for unbalanced lines, plus ring-wave coupling for balanced and unbalanced lines.

The Haefely PCD 126A couples combination-wave surge and 100 kHz ring-wave disturbances onto up to four unshielded data or control wires at 6.6 kV peak. Combination-wave testing is for asymmetrical lines; ring-wave testing supports both symmetrical and asymmetrical lines. Coupling elements and paths are selected manually, with decoupling supplied separately.

Overview and application

The Haefely PCD 126A couples combination-wave surge and 100 kHz ring-wave disturbances onto up to four unshielded data or control wires at 6.6 kV peak. Combination-wave testing is for asymmetrical lines; ring-wave testing supports both symmetrical and asymmetrical lines. Coupling elements and paths are selected manually, with decoupling supplied separately.

  • Safety banana sockets make the selected coupling path visible.
  • Use DEC 7 for appropriate asymmetrical-line decoupling; select the decoupling network for the line type, bandwidth and EUT voltage.
  • Manufacturer-listed generators include PIM 100 / PIM 110 on the Surge Platform and PSURGE 4010. AXOS 5/8 list PCD 126A as an accessory; ring-wave testing requires a ring-wave-equipped generator.
  • Use PCD 121 for symmetrical combination-wave coupling; PCD 126A alone does not cover that case.

Combination wave: 1.2/50 us voltage and 8/20 us current. Telecom wave: 10/700 us voltage and 5/320 us current. Ratings depend on the selected coupling/protection elements; review each product specification before configuring the system.

PCD 121 and PCD 126A provide coupling only. DEC 5, DEC 6 and DEC 7 provide decoupling/protection only. PCD-1000-4 combines both functions for high-speed Ethernet. IP4B is an EFT/burst clamp and is intentionally excluded from this matrix.
