The aircraft industry has a high concern for safety. It is not easy to stop and repair the vehicle 30,000 ft in the air. Testing is taken to an extreme to mitigate any risk. High field levels, large lightning transients and low emissions standards are all required for aircraft electronics. The standards can be confusing and complex at first but once some guidance and experience is gained an understanding is reached. The commercial Avionics world is mostly driven by the US standard RTCA DO-160, this standard has evolved over the years and covers all environmental safety, design and EMC requirements. EUROCAE in Europe has a mirror effort to DO-160 to aid in the support. Then each manufacturer like Airbus, Boing and others will have their own variations and requirements.
