In 1993 (taking effect in 1995) the low voltage directive (LVD) was enhanced to include EMC requirements. These requirements are largely influenced by the standards created in IEC and CISPR. The LVD is Law for all electronic products being sold in the European Union. This introduced a big change to all manufacturers. But this was just the start, as new technologies are introduced new standards are needed. OTI, Smart Grid, G5, Close proximity radar…. The IEC and CISPR are the main organizations creating the standards. These are broken down mostly into test (basic) standards and the guiding product standards.
