PCD-1000-4 - 4 kV Gigabit Ethernet and PoE Surge CDN

Combined surge coupling and decoupling for active Gigabit Ethernet and PoE.

The PCD-1000-4 high-speed data-line CDN applies common-mode 1.2/50 us - 8/20 us surges to balanced telecommunications circuits up to 1000Base-T while decoupling auxiliary equipment. It supports IEEE 802.3af PoE and non-PoE configurations, with a maximum 4 kV surge test voltage.

Overview and application

The PCD-1000-4 high-speed data-line CDN is documented by the supplied Fischer F-130814-1004-4 datasheet. It applies common-mode 1.2/50 us - 8/20 us surges to balanced telecommunications circuits up to 1000Base-T while decoupling auxiliary equipment. It supports IEEE 802.3af PoE and non-PoE configurations, with a maximum 4 kV surge test voltage.

  • External resistor boxes configure common-mode injection for one, two or four pairs. Confirm the required boxes and cable set when ordering; the supplied sheet does not give a complete packing list.
  • No spark gaps are used for surge coupling or AE-port voltage limiting, according to the manufacturer.
  • Isolation inductance is sized to avoid saturation at the rated surge level.
  • Each CDN is measured with a Fluke DTX-1800 to demonstrate CAT 6 Permanent Link performance. The datasheet references TIA-568-C and ISO 11801:2002 measurement requirements.
  • The supplied source does not establish support for IEEE 802.3at/bt PoE or data speeds above 1 Gbit/s.
Specifications follow the user-supplied Fischer F-130814-1004-4 datasheet (600136 Rev C). PCD-1000-4 is the Haefely accessory designation.

Combination wave: 1.2/50 us voltage and 8/20 us current. Telecom wave: 10/700 us voltage and 5/320 us current. Ratings depend on the selected coupling/protection elements; review each product specification before configuring the system.

PCD 121 and PCD 126A provide coupling only. DEC 5, DEC 6 and DEC 7 provide decoupling/protection only. PCD-1000-4 combines both functions for high-speed Ethernet. IP4B is an EFT/burst clamp and is intentionally excluded from this matrix.
