Overview and application

The Haefely IP4B couples electrical fast transient and burst pulses onto cables connected to peripheral equipment for IEC/EN 61000-4-4 testing. Its 1 m active coupling length accommodates cable diameters from 4 to 40 mm according to the V2026.06 datasheet. Coupling is capacitive, so the injected disturbance depends on the cable and its placement.

  • Injects EFT/burst without a direct conductive connection to each signal conductor.
  • Use a compatible EFT/burst generator and the standard-specified cable arrangement and reference ground plane.
  • For verification, Haefely lists the EFT/Burst Verification Set, PAT 50A, PAT 1000 and a transducer plate as separate accessories.
The manufacturer webpage lists 0.1-40 mm cable diameter, while the newer V2026.06 datasheet specifies 4-40 mm. The datasheet value is used here; confirm use below 4 mm.
