MIL-STD-188-125-1/2 Compliant Pulse Current Injection (PCI) Testing

The IPP3K-4MS is an Intermediate Pulse Generator specifically designed for Pulse Current Injection (PCI) testing in accordance with MIL-STD-188-125-1/2. This system is used to evaluate the performance of points of entry (POE) and protective devices against electromagnetic pulse (EMP) threats.

The generator produces double-exponential current pulses of intermediate duration and offers fully automated control via RS232 and USB interfaces. It is a user-friendly and safe solution, making it ideal for military, aerospace, and high-voltage testing laboratories.

Typical Test Setup

The IPP3K-4MS delivers a high-current pulse either directly or through coupling devices to test the effectiveness of protective devices at electrical entry points. A residual pulse enters the protected facility, which is monitored using current probes connected via fiber optics to an oscilloscope inside a shielded enclosure.

Multi-Line Direct Coupling for Accurate Testing

The IPP3K-4MS is equipped with 4 independent outputs, allowing direct pulse injection on:

  • Shielded Cables – Direct connection to the generator.
  • AC/DC Power Lines – Coupling directly to the power supply through an isolating transformer to ensure controlled current flow through the protective device.
  • Signal/Data/Telecom Cables – Direct coupling for testing low-voltage and communication lines; an optional transformer can be used for system isolation.

Recommended Coupling Method: Direct coupling is suggested for accurate testing, eliminating the need for additional coupling devices. A 60 A / 230 VAC isolating transformer is available as an option.
