VAMP 9243 B Vertical Active Rod AntennaThe VAMP 9243 B is a low noise, active, vertical monopole antenna which can be used to measure the electric fields in the frequency range between 9 kHz and 30 MHz, according to CISPR 16-1-4, CISPR 25, MIL-STD-461, ANSI C63.5, IEE 291 and many other standards. The antenna can be equipped with several accessories like ground-planes, calibration adapters, voltage divider and bonding kit according to MIL-STD-461F standard. The VAMP 9243 B antenna is composed of two parts: the housing, which contains the amplifier and the vertical rod element.
The active antenna is powered by 8x NiMH batteries, which are installed inside the housing. Two LEDs indicate the operating status. The batteries can be recharged by using the ACS 110 charger. With fully charged batteries, the antenna can be used for ~50 hours.
The antenna´s internal amplifier is very sensitive to electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage. A safety circuit decouples the rod mounting interface from the amplifier, when the power switch is set to OFF. However, when the antenna is ON, the protection circuitry is not active and extra care must be applied to avoid damaging the sensitive amplifier, for example not touching the rod with hand (which can carry electrostatic charges).
The rod, which is included in the scope of delivery, is composed of three parts: 2x 500 mm long and 1x 40 mm long. For CISPR 25 only the 2x 500 mm sections shall be mounted together, in order to reach a total length of 1 meter. For MIL- STD-461, all sections shall be assembled to reach the total length of 104 cm (41 inches). The frequency range of the antenna can be extended to 60 MHz by using only 1x 500 mm rod.
When assembling the rods, it is absolutely sufficient to hand tighten the threads. For the convenient disassembly of the rod with eventually tight threads, the rod´s sections are equipped with cross holes of 4.3 mm (see Figure 1), which can be used to unlock with the use of two screwdrivers.
